Allen Keller’s Great Model Railroads Volume 67

The Lakeside Lines of Tom Harris runs between Chicago and Norfolk, Virginia in 1979. The modeled portion of this HO scale layout runs through only one Virginia town, North Franklin. The railroad consists of one yard 2.5 scale miles long. The yard is huge by model railroading standards, but Tom wanted a significant yard so he could have full size trains of 80 cars, big curves and long sidings. Such a large yard can be sub-divided into different functions. The West Yard classifies cars. The East Yard blocks them in order of delivery. The layout itself is 24 x 40 feet and the oval shaped staging yard sits behind the backdrop and encircles the layout. Tom will show you how to secure a staging yard, build spline roadbed, make self-supporting hillsides, install an aluminum fascia and valance and add extra weight to cars. 59 minutes.
