Description

A variety of silos can be purchased as plastic kits, but it is also easy to make them yourself from empty shampoo bottles. In this video we´re modeling two silos for a harbor side diesel depot.

What are the dimensions of the bottles you use.

In this video, we'll make silos from empty shampoo bottles. We're starting by removing the label and the cap. And cut away the top part. Here you can also adjust the height of your silos. Now plastered a bottom using a plaster of your choice. I am using a fine plaster for indoor woodwork but plastic padding for cars will work just fine too. With help the plaster seal, I make a cone of the plaster. Leave this to dry now properly and plaster again if necessary. Once we sanded it smooth, it's time for some painting. What we'll paint it with a thick gray primer. This one's solvent based. So it will stick properly onto both the plastic and the plaster. Once the gray primer has dried, we have an excellent foundation for the weathering. It will consist from streaks of first black acrylic paint then brown, and also some rusty red paint. If you like, you can also add a pipe to these silo's. It can either be made from straws, but I prefer a bent piece of brass tubing from the hobby store. It's more to scale than the straws. A flat washer will make the fitting for the pipe. Fit with facet glue, paint with sponge. Paint and whether the pipe and glue it in place using fast set glue as well. Now, a whole lot more details can be added to silos like this, like fences, additional pipe systems, concrete foundation, and pumps, et cetera, et cetera.
